YouTube ads pulled over concerns of paedophiles commenting on kids videos

Popular YouTuber MattsWhatItiS and a report from Wired shed light on a discovery that suspected paedophiles have been operating on the YouTube platform.

Examples have been found of users posting comments on YouTube videos containing links to child pornography and other unlisted videos, links to social media contacts, or timestamps that showed when children innocently bared their body partsduring the videos.

Making matters worse, YouTube’s recommendation algorithms also make it easy to find videos of children in compromising positions.

YouTube has since disabled comments on tens of millions of videos, and deleted offending accounts and channels.

A number of big advertisers, including Nestle, Epic Games, Disney and US telecommunications company AT&T, have all pulled advertising from YouTube to distance themselves from the potential fallout.
