US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner’s business ties to a number of nations, including Russia and China, are now being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller’s team.
Investigators are looking into whether beneficial or retaliatory measures were taken against those Mr Kushner had business dealings with.
Among the issues being investigated is a deal between Kushner Companies and the ex-prime minister of Qatar that fell through, shortly after which the US pursued punitive economic measures against Qatar.
The Trump administration maintains that these measures were taken in an effort to curb Qatar state supported terrorism.
This news comes shortly after Jared Kushner had his security clearances significantly downgraded, losing him access to the President’s Daily Brief and diminishing his role in representing the Trump administration.
Mr Kushner had previously played an influential role in the administration, meeting with many foreign representatives and representing the Trump administration’s interests abroad.
