Just seven months after going into opposition, the Liberal Party has formed a WA Chinese members club to garner support from the Asian community.
During a launch at Parliament House on Wednesday evening, Liberal MPs were joined by members of the Chinese community.
Former Liberal Candidate For Mirrabrooka Lily Chen has been appointed as the club’s first president.
Opposition Leader Mike Nahan hopes the creation of the WA Liberal Chinese Club will encourage the political participation of Asians.
“We in government and in opposition are really focused on getting everybody to be involved in the political process, new migrants and of course the Chinese community,” he said.
More than 100 people have joined the club so far, the number is expected to grow.
The club has formed at a time when ethic community participation in WA politics increased dramatically.
