Rockingham armed robbery under investigation

Rockingham detectives are currently investigating an armed robber that occurred in Rockingham on Monday 7th January 2019.

The incident occurred around 4:05pm inside a crowded shopping centre on Council Avenue.

A man attempted to leave the store without paying for the items in the trolley he was pushing.

When challenged by staff, the man produced a small axe from within his shorts and swung at staff before running form the store.

The man was last seen running through the Read Street underpass.

Detective Senior Constable Teresa Booth said this was an isolated incident.

“So the male was seen running through the underpass towards Read Street in Rockingham, at the time he had the axe in his hand, but as he went through the underpass he did actually put it back into his clothing, from that point on we’re not sure where he went,” she explained.

He is described as fair skinned aged in his early thirties, slim build, around 170cm in height, dark blond hair. He was wearing a red t-shirt and dark shorts.

Detectives believe the man shown in the pictures can assist with their inquiries. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or to make a report online at
