The Republican led US House of Representatives Intelligence Committee has cleared Trump of collusion with Russia in its report into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
The report found that while there was evidence that Russia had attempted to interfere in the election, there was no evidence that anyone in the Trump team had attempted to collude with the Russians.
“In the course of witness interviews, reviews of document productions, and investigative efforts extending well over a year, the committee did not find any evidence of collusion, conspiracy, or coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russians,” the report said.
The Democrats on the committee argue with the report’s findings, however, saying that the Trump campaign was open to Russian influence.
“They have engaged in a systematic effort to muddy the waters, and to deflect attention away from the President, most recklessly in their assault on the central pillars of the rule of law,” their dissent said.
US President Donald Trump celebrated the findings on Twitter, as well as taking aim at the Clinton Campaign.
“House Intelligence Committee Report released. “No evidence” that the Trump Campaign “colluded, coordinated or conspired with Russia.”,” he said.
“Clinton Campaign paid for Opposition Research obtained from Russia- Wow! A total Witch Hunt! MUST END NOW!”
