Recovery phase commenced for the missing fishermen and their vessel

The Water Police have concluded their marine search and rescue operation off the Cockburn sound, Fremantle Harbour and Rottnest Island coastline.

This comes after four men left Woodman’s Point on Wednesday Morning for an overnight fishing trip and their boat didn’t return.

On Sunday, WA Police Inspector Sean Togher said the recovery phase has now been commenced. It’s understood that two bodies have been found, the boat and other two victims are still missing.

Police thanked the families for their assistance and expressed their condolences.

“At this point, the WA Police continue on at least for the next week in regards on trying to locate the vessel and the individuals that are missing, and that we will revisit the entire search operation if something of significance discovered,” Inspector Togher said on Sunday.

Authorities are now continuing the search on the western side of Garden Islands with one Water Police boat and one fixed wing aircraft.
