US President Donald Trump has promised to donate $1 million towards relief efforts for Texas after Hurricane Harvey.
Despite early claims the money was to come from his own person fortune, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later said she was unsure whether the money would come from him or from the Trump Foundation.
Reportedly, Mr Trump has not donated to the Trump Foundation since 2008, according to investigations done by David Farenthold, who won a Pulitzer for his work.
US President Donald Trump also officially asked congress for US$7.85 billion for the initial relief effort for those affected by hurricane Harvey.
Texas has started clean-up after the devastating hurricane Harvey, which devastated eastern Texas and so far has killed as many as 50 people.
Texas’ department of public safety have so far counted 185, 000 homes damaged and a further 9000 more destroyed, with the numbers likely to rise as more of the affected areas become accessible.
The storm has become one of the costliest to hit the US, displacing more than a million people and crippling Houston, as well as taking out the water supply for more than 120,000 people in the city of Beaumont.
