Western Australia can look forward to a culturally vibrant year following financial support for multicultural events across the state.
The McGowan Government will award $129,000 to the community through the Office of Multicultural Interests’ Community Grants Program for some of the state’s popular celebrations.
“Our cultural diversity is one of WA’s greatest strengths,” Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Paul Papalia said.
“Through events supported by these grants, the wider community has an opportunity to experience and learn about the different cultures that are a part of our social fabric.”
Events will include the South West Multicultural Festival, the Swan Festival of Lights and the Hellenic Community’s Glendi festival.
Smaller grants will also fund community events during Harmony Week to celebrate and reflect on multiculturalism.
The grants give culturally diverse communities the opportunity for events to support community development and social unity.
“These events not only bring communities together, they preserve the cultural heritage and traditions that are so vital to our vibrant multicultural State,” Mr Papalia said
