North Korea Accuses CIA of Assassination Plot, Resumes Nuclear Testing

It has been reported by AFP (Agence France Presse) that North Korea has accused the CIA and South Korea of plotting to assassinate Kim Jong-un.

The North Korean Ministry of State Security released a statement saying that the CIA and Seoul’s Intelligence Services intended to use “biochemical substances” during public ceremonial events in Pyongyang to assassinate the leader.

“Assassination by use of biochemical substances including radioactive substance and nano poisonous substance is the best method that does not require access to the target, their lethal results will appear after six or twelve months” a statement by the Ministry of State Security said.

This comes as tensions between North Korea and the west continues to soar, with belligerent rhetoric coming from both sides.

There are also recent reports stating that North Korea is potentially preparing for a sixth nuclear missile test.

Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, warned in an interview with Sueddeutsche Zeitung that there is evidence North Korea is still pursuing its nuclear programme.

The IAEA has “concrete information that the nuclear programme is going ahead just as North Korea is publicly stating”, Mr Amano said.

This is based on satellite surveillance of North Korea, which has showed activity resuming at North Korea’s Nuclear Test Site.
