Prime Minister, Malcom Turnbull has banned sexual relations in parliament, after Barnaby Joyce made a shocking error of judgement in having an affair with a woman working in his office.
Mr Joyce has been criticised for humiliating the Liberal party.
A change in the ministerial standards would ensure incidents like this will not be tolerated.
However, the Australia-wide standard already is if you have a relationship with a subordinate, the consequences are very harsh.
WA Premier, Mark McGowan, said what’s going on nationally is a bit embarrassing for the country.
Liza Harvey, Deputy Opposition Leader, said it’s a sorry state of affairs that the Prime Minister of Australia is dictating standards that the community of politicians would already expect.
“I think they all need to get in a room and sort out what they’re going to do, because the concern of most australians is that they want our members of parliament, our politicians to govern…”
“All the rest of this is a distraction, and they need to get back to the job of governing,” she said.
