More than twelve people have been injured at Flinders and Elizabeth Street intersection in Melbourne City Centre.
19 pedestrians were struck by an SUV; a pre-school aged child has been taken to Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious condition. 18 others have also been taken to hospital.
The 19 year old male driver was arrested by an off-duty male police officer.
The 24 year old passenger was also arrested, but Police believed he do not have any links to the incident.
Emergency services, including Victoria Police, have cordoned off the area, with major road blocks set for tonight and tomorrow morning.
Police are describing the incident as a ‘deliberate act’.
