The McGowan Government announced they will be honouring their election promise and delivering a $1.8 million upgrade to the Gibson Park netball courts.
The key election commitment to Bicton and surrounding areas was included in the 2017-18 State Budget and the funds will extend the main pavilion, provide additional toilets and increase spectator seating.
Bicton MLA Lisa O’Malley said these upgrades will make games more enjoyable for the almost 5,000 players at the grounds every week.
“Sport not only builds confidence and keeps your mind and body healthy, but it is also a place for the community to come together,” she said.
“I’m very pleased to be a part of the McGowan Government that is getting on with the job of delivering our election commitments.”
Premier Mark McGowan said the government views these upgrades as important.
“Gibson Park is an incredibly popular facility for local sporting clubs, particularly netball, with thousands of people attending matches every week.
“These upgrades will ensure that players, coaches and spectators can attend matches in a safer, more comfortable environment and I’m a big supporter of any plans that will encourage more kids to take part in sport.”
A date is yet to be set for these upgrades to begin.
