Iranian foreign minister call Trump threat to international peace

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif labelled US President Donald Trump and his administration a threat to the Middle East and global peace in a statement on Twitter.

“It is true that there is a real threat to our region and to international peace and security: that threat is the Trump administration’s sense of entitlement to destabilize the world along with rogue accomplices in our region,” Mr Zarif said.

“The U.S. must start acting like a normal state.”

Tensions are high between the two nations after Mr Trump withdrew from a multi-lateral nuclear deal with Iran in May and reimposed sanctions on the nation.

The deal, made between the US, the UK, Russia, France, China, Germany, the EU and Iran saw an agreement for sanctions against Iran being lifted in return for the halting of its nuclear weapons programs.

Mr Trump maintains that Iran is not upholding their end of the deal, and withdrew US support for it.

The remaining nations are attempting to keep the deal going, with ministers from Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and Iran meeting next week to discuss the future of the deal with Iran facing US sanctions once more.
