Cesar Sayoc, a 56-year-old man from Florida was arrested on Friday. He is suspected of sending 14 mail bombs and has been arrested and charged with multiple offences.
DNA and fingerprints found on packages sent to the former president Barack Obama and Democratic congress-woman Maxine Waters matched those of Sayoc’s previous police samples.
Sayoc has a lengthy criminal record, which includes making a bomb threat against the Florida Power and Light Company in 2002.
Sayoc’s van, where he was suspected of living, was towed away from the scene of arrest. The van was covered in stickers displaying republican support, as well as more offensive content such as a “CNN Sucks” and a picture of Hillary Clinton’s head in cross-hairs.
Sayoc has made veiled threats on social media and his profiles show that he is an avid Trump supporter and engages in conspiracies and right-wing media such as Breitbart.
Mail bombs were sent to Trump critics, including billionaire George Soros, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Robert De Niro.
President Trump has referred to the bomb threats as “terrorizing acts”. No one has been harmed to date.
