A body believed to be missing man Ian Collett was found along Albany Highway near Hakea Road in Ashendon at around 9:30AM today.
According to Police, a road worker has located Mr Collett’s body 4 – 5 meters off the road.
Police say they cannot comment on how long Mr Collett’s body has ended up at the location.
However, authorities confirmed the body was located within the search area which was previously searched..
In a press conference this afternoon, WA Police Assistant Commander Brad Sorrell says the Mr Collett’s family members are being consoled by senior officers.
“They are absolutely gutted, it’s not the outcome they were seeking,” Mr Sorrell said.
“But hopefully, once if we confirm and we will through forensic process, that should give the family some closure which we are happy about.”
Mr Collett who suffered dementia went missing on the 19th, May, 2018, after wandering off from his home in Canning Vale.
Despite a 17 days search along Albany Highway by SES Volunteers and Police, Mr Collett was not found.
A report will be prepared for the coroner by Police in due course.
