Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said that Russia should pay compensation to the families of 38 Australian victims of the shooting down of flight MH17.
The official investigation by Dutch investigators has blamed the downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight on the Russian 53rd anti-aircraft missile brigade.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied Russian involvement, saying it was a “terrible tragedy” but that “several versions” of the events exist and attacked the investigation as unreliable.
Mr Putin said that the findings of the investigation were not trustworthy, as Russia had not been involved in the investigation.
The Dutch government has announced it will be holding Russia “formally accountable” according to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
“There is but one conclusion to be made from yesterday’s presentation, namely that Russia is thoroughly responsible for the deployment of this BUK system,” said Mr Rutte.
